High School Students Across Slovakia Explore Migration Decision-Making during UN Week

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), as the coordinator of the European Migration Network (EMN) in Slovakia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, took part in the activities of the UN Week and organised Destination Europe workshop in three grammar schools. In total, 67 students from Gymnázium Andreja Kmeťa in Banská Štiavnica, Gymnázium Dominika Tatarku in Poprad, and Gymnázium Juraja Hronca in Bratislava participated in these interactive sessions, gaining insights into how decision-making about migration policy works.

New EMN-OECD Inform Highlights Civic Training as an important tool for Integration of Third-Country Nationals

A joint inform from the European Migration Network (EMN) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) explores how civic training courses for third-country nationals (TCNs) are being implemented across 25 EMN Member and Observer Countries. Titled ‘Implementation of measures for civic training as an important tool for integration of third-country nationals’, the report highlights the role of these courses in equipping migrants with essential skills and knowledge for their social, cultural, and political integration.

Stepping into the Shoes of Policymakers: Destination Europe Workshop at One World Festival

On October 20th, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as the European Migration Network (EMN) coordinator in Slovakia, hosted the Destination Europe workshop as part of the jubilee 25th edition of the One World International Documentary Film Festival. Known for its focus on global issues, the One World Festival brings attention to topics such as migration, climate change, and human rights through impactful films and discussions, creating a space for thoughtful engagement on these important topics. As partner of this inspiring festival, IOM Slovakia joined in celebrating human rights and exploring important topics through organization´s activities.

New EMN and Red Cross EU joint inform addresses the identification of victims of torture in the context of international and temporary protection

The inform, produced in collaboration with the Red Cross EU Office and the Swedish Red Cross, provides an overview of the guidance and training available for early detection and identification of victims of torture and/or ill-treatment in international protection procedures across EMN Member and Observer Countries. It emphasizes the importance of robust procedural safeguards and outlines the practices used by asylum authorities to ensure survivors of torture receive the care they need during the asylum process.

EMN Slovakia delivered migration lectures and Destination Europe workshop at the Academy of the Police Force in Bratislava

Building on the long-standing cooperation between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Academy of the Police Force, representatives of IOM, as the coordinator of the European Migration Network (EMN) in Slovakia, delivered in September a series of lectures on migration to more than 300 students at the Academy of the Police Force in Bratislava. Additionally, in October, three sessions of the educational activity Destination Europe were conducted for 72 students, further expanding the learning experience.
