New EMN Study Explores Family Reunification of Third-Country Nationals in the EU

The European Migration Network (EMN) has released a new study titled “Family reunification of third-country nationals in the EU: state of play of law and practice.” Family reunification has long been one of the most significant legal pathways to the EU, representing 26% of all first residence permits issued in 2023. It remains essential in safeguarding the right to family life and promoting successful integration of third-country nationals.

What does migration legislation look like in practice? Experts from the Foreigners Police and state institutions met at the EMN Slovakia gathering

At the November meeting of EMN Slovakia, representatives of the Bureau of Border and Foreigners Police of the Police Force Presidium, regional directorates and departments of the Foreigners Police, the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, the Social Insurance Agency, the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, and IOM Slovakia discussed the practical implementation of legislation on residence for third-country nationals.

Participants of the EMN meeting joined the Destination Europe workshop in Ružomberok

Destiantion Europe workshop was part of a two-day meeting focused on sharing experiences with the implementation of labour migration legislation and brought together participants from labour offices, their central office, the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic, and the IOM Migration Information Centre.

Labour Offices from across Slovakia shared their experiences with the implementation of labour migration legislation at the EMN meeting

The October EMN Slovakia meeting brought together around 60 participants from Labour Offices, their Central Office, the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic, and the IOM Migration Information Centre. Participants discussed current and planned legislation on the employment of third-country nationals, as well as the information systems used in their daily work. The meeting also included a learning component on migration, where participants took part in the interactive Destination Europe activity, working in groups to make decisions on migration and integration policies at the EU, national, and local levels.

High School Students in Banská Štiavnica Explore Migration Decision-Making during UN Week

As part of the United Nations Week marking the80th anniversary of the UN, the International Organization for Migration (UN migration agency), as the coordinator of the European Migration Network (EMN) in Slovakia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, brought the Destination Europe activity to Gymnázium Andreja Kmeťa in Banská Štiavnica.
