New EMN Inform examines safe countries of origin and safe third countries under the new Asylum Procedure Regulation

The European Migration Network (EMN) has published a new inform titled “Safe countries of origin and safe third countries: criteria for identifying and examining applications in light of the new Asylum Procedure Regulation (EU) 2024/1348).” Based on contributions from 26 EMN Member Countries and Serbia, the inform analyses current national approaches to safe country of origin (SCO) and safe third country (STC) concepts and their relevance for the implementation of the Asylum Procedure Regulation from June 2026.

Erasmus students explored migration decision-making through Destination Europe workshop

On 3 March and 17 March 2026, Erasmus students at Gymnázium Andreja Vrábla in Levice participated in the Destination Europe workshop organised within the activities of EMN Slovakia. A total of 60 students from Slovakia, Germany and Spain took part in the interactive sessions, working in international groups and engaging in discussions on migration policies.

Understanding migration choices in times of change: EMN Slovakia cohosted policy event linking research and practice

Do migrants navigate their choices based on policies or realities of their lives? On 6 March 2026, the European Migration Network (EMN) Slovakia, together with the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) Europe and the Slovak Academy of Sciences’ Institute for Forecasting, co-organised a policy event From Evidence to Action: Understanding Migration Choices in Times of Change. The halfday exchange brought together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to examine how people make migration decisions and how policies shape these choices.

New EMN Summary examines how Separated Migrant Children are addressed in EU asylum systems

The European Migration Network (EMN) has published a new Summary titled “Separated migrant children.” Prepared on the basis of national contributions from 24 EMN Member Countries, the Summary focuses on children who arrive in the EU accompanied by adults other than their parents or legal guardians,and describes how Member States currently respond to the specific protection needs of these children in the context of asylum procedures.
