On 19 May 2023, the European Migration Network (EMN) together with the National Institute of Education and Youth, the UN Youth Delegate of Slovakia as well as the coordinators of the city of Prievidza participated in the implementation of an educational event for youth from the Leisure Centre in Prievidza on the topic of migration. As part of the EMN activities in Slovakia, young people had the opportunity to participate in the educational activity Destination Europe.
This educational tool on migration and integration encourages young people to discuss and learn about current topics in today's Europe in an innovative and interactive way.
The Destination Europe role-based activity allowed students to experience the role of minister, European Commissioner, mayor or NGO representative and make decisions that influence migration and integration policy-making, as well as the lives of three specific migrants: Yulia, Ahmed and Sunil.
Young people rated the workshop as a very positive experience and actively participated in discussions on migration policy decisions at European, national or local level. Students had the opportunity not only to see the impact of their decisions on migrant groups, but also to have a passionate debate about how the values of security, peace and democracy accompany migrants on their journey to achieve their dreams.
EMN Slovakia organizes workshops on the topic of migration as part of which students can try the educational activity Destination Europe. The workshop lasts at least 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the time possibilities of the school, class or other group of young people. The workshops are free of charge.
