International Organization for Migration (IOM) as the EMN coordinator for Slovakia is organising the 7th Educational Seminar on Migration entitled „Impacts and Opportunities of International Migration“  to be held in Bratislava, Slovakia on 20 – 22 August 2019.

The seminar will welcome experts from The Netherlands, Senegal, Denmark or Austria and more who will be lecturing on the following topics:

  • Politics and migration
  • How and why people decide to migrate
  • Good governance as a way forward in migration
  • Migration in urbanizing world

The event targets mainly professionals from the Slovak public administration and non-profit organisations, research institutions and academia who deal with or are interested in topics of migration and international protection. The seminar is also aimed at representatives of EMN National Contact Points from other EU Member States and Norway.

The programme will include two evening accompanying events for the public. The first one is screening of the documentary film “The Good Postman” about the election for mayor of an almost deserted Bulgarian village on the Turkish border. The second event is a play “Domov. Kde je ten tvoj” (Home. Where is Yours?)  by Theatre Nová Scéna, followed by a discussion with experts on how to talk about migration in an accurate and balanced way.

The English and Slovak interpreting will be provided during the seminar's day programme as well as during evening discussion. Documentary screening will be with Slovak and English subtitles.

Registration is open till 1 July 2019.
